In the Mughal courts where scholars did weave, Shāh Walī Allāh sought hearts to relieve. With Persian lines beneath Arabic grace, He brought the Qur’ān to a broader embrace. Amid a kingdom in decline and despair, He saw the common folk’s burdens laid bare. No longer confined to scholars’ decree, His work brought understanding to the laity. The Arabic text stood firm, sublime, Unmatched in its beauty, untouched by time. But paired with a tongue the people could speak, It offered them knowledge, profound and unique. Through visions and dreams, his path was clear, A scholar of wisdom both far and near. He carried his sanad, a lineage of light, To guide his revival with divine insight. The Mughal class, he sought to displace, Their stagnant authority he dared to erase. For faith was a force for all to explore, Not locked in the courts behind scholarly doors. Yet even as British and Turks took their aim, To reshape the sacred for political gain, Walī Allāh’s balance stood firm in its way, Preserving the Arabic while leading the fray. His legacy lives in translations anew, From Persian to Urdu, to English too. A scholar, reformer, a beacon so bright, He gave the Qur’ān a populist light.
