We ran through the city like ghosts in the machine, hologram legends, midnight machines, eyes full of static, hearts full of gun smoke, the last true arcade kids the world ever broke. We lived through the glitch, like a beam in the night, for rooftops that shimmered like screens full of light, for neon-lit highways with no exit signs, where forever felt real, and the world felt like mine. Laughter broke here once, sharp as a spark, soft as the hum of a console in the dark, it lingers like echoes inside the arcade, credits still rolling on the games where we got played. But pixels burn out, and maps disappear, the high score resets at the end of the year, and all that remains when the console shuts down is the echoes of our laughter still spinning around.
