THE HOLI

The story of Holika Dahan and the celebration of Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm in India. It is based on a mythological tale involving the devotee Prahlad, King Hiranyakashyap, and his sister Holika. The tale of Holika Dahan dates back to ancient times when there was a demon king named Hiranyakashyap. He considered himself a god and wanted everyone to worship him. However, his son Prahlad was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu and constantly chanted his name. This did not please Hiranyakashyap at all. He tried numerous times to persuade Prahlad to abandon his devotion to Vishnu, but Prahlad remained steadfast in his faith. Hiranyakashyap made several attempts to kill his son, but each time Lord Vishnu protected Prahlad. Finally, he sought the help of his sister Holika. Holika was granted a boon that she could not be burned by fire. Hiranyakashyap devised a plan for Holika to sit in the fire holding Prahlad in her lap, so that Prahlad would burn while Holika would remain safe. But when Holika sat in the fire with Prahlad, by the grace of Lord Vishnu, nothing happened to Prahlad; instead, Holika was burned to ashes in the fire. This symbolizes the victory of good over evil. In remembrance of this event, Holika Dahan is celebrated, where sticks and cow dung cakes are burned, continuing the tradition of ending evil.

Puente: Lo sincrónico estudia en un solo lugar, lo diacrónico el cambio al pasar. Las palabras tienen su función, según el contexto y la intención. La semántica ve el significado, del signo y referente relacionado. El campo semántico agrupa sentidos, y la polisemia juega con los mismos. Verso 3 Los sinónimos dicen lo mismo quizá, los anónimos expresan lo opuesto en verdad. Los homónimos suenan igual sin dudar, pero en su significado pueden variar. Si escuchas bello o vello hablar, los homófonos entran a trabajar. Con estas nociones podemos pensar, como el lenguaje nos hace expresar.
